Did God, then, create man so wicked and perverse?
No, on the contrary, God created man good and in his image, that is, in true righteousness and holiness, so that he might rightly know God his Creator, heartily love him, and live with him in eternal blessedness to praise and glorify him.
From where, then, did man’s depraved nature come?
From the fall and disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, in Paradise, for there our nature became so corrupt that we are all conceived and born in sin.
But are we so corrupt that we are totally unable to do any good and inclined to all evil?
Yes, unless we are regenerated by the Spirit of God.
God takes the initiative in our salvation.
Praise Him for giving us the sure hope of living again in a world that will be perfect.
Already we enjoy a taste of what will be. Jesus has restored our communication and communion with our creator.
It is true that our relationship with God is not yet perfect, but when Jesus comes again, it will be perfect.
Already we enjoy a taste of peace with ourselves. No longer do we have to be at war with ourselves and think of our uselessness or faults and be totally driven to despair, because Jesus has given us hope and the assurance that we are okay in God’s sight.
If God loves us and has forgiven us of our sins then we are not to despair of ourselves. The day is coming when we will be as God created us to be – perfect.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:1-6
